Dagupan, Sangley Point record Wednesday’s highest heat index at 48°C

PAGASA's synoptic stations in Dagupan City and in Sangley Point, Cavite City on Wednesday reported the day's highest heat index, or human-perceived temperature, at 48°C.

According to PAGASA, this is followed by the readings from the stations in Maasin City and Legazpi City, which both recorded a heat index of 47°C; and in the Science City of Muñoz and Roxas City with 45°C.

The heat index is the measure of the temperature that a person feels. It is computed by factoring in the humidity as well as the air temperature.

PAGASA warned that with a heat index of at least 41°C, cramps and heat exhaustion are possible, which in turn may lead to heat stroke amid continued physical activity.

Meanwhile, the Science Garden, Quezon City recorded a heat index of 40°C from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

A maximum temperature was recorded at 35.8°C at 2 p.m. — Joahna Lei Casilao/BM, GMA News
