Sangley Point, Cavite City records day’s highest heat index of 50°C


The highest heat index on Sunday, 50°C, was recorded at PAGASA’s synoptic station in Sangley Point, Cavite City, the weather bureau said.

This is followed by the heat index of 49°C recorded at the Science City of Muñoz in Nueva Ecija, and 48°C in Ambulong in Tanauan City and Dagupan City.

The synoptic stations in Aparri in Cagayan, Casiguran in Aurora and Dipolog City, meanwhile, all experienced 44°C each.

PAGASA reiterated that a heat index ranging from 41°C to 54°C may lead to heat cramps and exhaustion. Heat stroke is also possible amid continuous physical activity.

Meanwhile, the PAGASA station at the Science Garden in Quezon City reported a heat index of 42°C at 3 p.m.

A maximum temperature of 35.7°C was also recorded in the area at the same time. — Ma. Angelica Garcia/BM, GMA News
