3 areas still under Signal No. 1 as Carina heads toward Luzon Strait
Batanes, Babuyan Islands, and the northeastern portion of mainland Cagayan remained under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 as Tropical Depression Carina headed toward Luzon Strait, PAGASA said on Monday afternoon.
"The center of Tropical Depression 'CARINA' is forecast move northwestward towards the Luzon Strait, passing roughly 100 km off the northeastern tip of Luzon and near Babuyan Islands and Batanes," PAGASA said in its 2 p.m. bulletin.
"However, accounting for the forecast track probability cone, a landfall scenario over these areas remains a possibility," it added.
Areas in Cayagan affected by the cyclone are Santa Ana, Gonzaga, Santa Teresita, Buguey, eastern Lal-lo, eastern Gattaran, and eastern Baggao.
"The areas under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal #1 may experience occasional gusts due to the Tropical Depression," PAGASA said.
It added that moderate to rough seas will be experienced over the northern and eastern seaboards of Luzon in the next 24 hours.
"Those with small seacrafts are advised not to venture out to sea," PAGASA warned.
As of 1 p.m., the center of Carina was estimated at 200 km east northeast of Tuguegarao City, Cagayan or 200 km east of Aparri, Cagayan, packing maximum winds of 45 km/h near the center and gustiness of up to 55 km/h.
Carina is moving northwestward at 15 km/h, according to PAGASA. —KBK, GMA News
