Signal No. 1 up over parts of Luzon as TD Ferdie seen to exit PAR on Monday


State weather bureau PAGASA on Sunday night raised Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 over parts of Luzon after a low-pressure area intensified into Tropical Depression Ferdie.

In its 11 p.m. severe weather bulletin, PAGASA said the following areas are under Signal No. 1:

  • Western portion of Ilocos Norte (Badoc, Pinili, Currimao, Batac City, Paoay, San Nicolas, Laoag City, Pasuquin, Bacarra, Burgos)
  • Western portion of Ilocos Sur (Santa Cruz, Tagudin, Santa Lucia, Galimuyod, Salcedo, Candon City, Banayoyo, Santiago, Burgos, Lidlidda, San Esteban, Santa Maria, Narvacan, Nagbukel, Santa, Caoayan, Vigan City, Santa Catalina, San Vicente, San Ildefonso, Bantay, Sinait, San Juan, Magsingal, Santo Domingo, Cabugao)
  • La Union
  • Western portion of Pangasinan (San Fabian, Dagupan City, Mangaldan, Calasiao, San Carlos City, Mangatarem, Aguilar, Lingayen, Binmaley, Infanta, Labrador, Sual, Bugallon, Dasol, Agno, Burgos, Mabini, Bani, Bolinao, Anda, Alaminos City)
  • Northern portion of Zambales (Candelaria,Santa Cruz)

“Winds of 30 to 60 kilometers per hour (kph) may be expected in at least 36 hours or intermittent rains may be expected within 36 hours,” PAGASA advised.

The cyclone was last seen 225 kilometers northwest of Dagupan City, Pangasinan or 180 kilometers West of Sinait, Ilocos Sur packing maximum sustained winds of 55 kph and gustiness of up to 70 kph.

Ferdie is moving north northeastward at 20 kph.

PAGASA said the cyclone is expected to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility by Monday evening when it moves to 340 kilometers west northwest of Basco, Batanes.

“A slight turn to the north-northwest is expected [Monday] evening. Ferdie is forecast to make landfall over Fujian Province in southeastern China on Tuesday morning,” it added.

Meanwhile, PAGASA also said it was monitoring Tropical Storm Jangmi, which was last located 950 kilometers north northeast of extreme Northern Luzon carrying maximum sustained winds of 85 kph and gustiness of up to 105 kph while moving northward at 35 kph. — Julia Mari Ornedo/BM, GMA News
