Julian now a severe tropical storm; scattered rains over Bicol, Quezon, nearby areas
The Bicol Region and the provinces of Quezon, Aurora, Isabela and Cagayan will have cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms as Tropical Storm Julian intensified into a Severe Tropical Storm, PAGASA reported.
The weather bureau warned that flash floods or landslides may occur in these areas during severe thunderstorms.
As of 4 a.m. on Saturday, the center of Severe Tropical Storm Julian (international name: Maysak) was estimated at 850 kilometers east of Tuguegarao City, Cagayan with maximum sustained winds of 95 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 115 km/h and remains almost stationary.
Julian is expected to slowly move northward on Saturday and exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Monday evening.
Meanwhile, Metro Manila and the rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers due to Southwest Monsoon and localized thunderstorms with the possibility of flash floods or landslides during severe thunderstorms.
In northern Luzon, wind speed is expected to be moderate to strong and moving in the southwest to west direction. Coastal waters will be moderate to rough.
In the Visayas and the rest of Luzon, wind forecast is light to moderate and moving in the southwest to west direction. Coastal waters will be slight to moderate.
The wind speed forecast in Mindanao meanwhile is light to moderate moving in the south to southwest direction while coastal waters are slight to moderate.
