Julian stationary over Philippine Sea; Habagat to bring rains to parts of Luzon

Typhoon Julian remained almost stationary over the Philippine Sea on Sunday morning but continued to intensify, PAGASA said in its severe weather bulletin.

Julian, however, remained far from the country's landmass.

Its outer rain band however may cause light to moderate rains over the Bicol Region, and heavy rains over Catanduanes.

The Southwest Monsoon (Habagat) meanwhile continues to affect parts of Luzon.

It will cause light to moderate with at times heavy rains over Pangasinan, Zambales and Bataan.

At 10 a.m., the eye of Julian was located 760 km east of Tuguegarao City, Cagayan.

It has maximum sustained winds of 140 km/h near the center and gustiness of up to 170 km/h.

The typhoon is expected to intensify and gradually accelerate northward on Sunday then turn north-northwestward or northwestward on Monday.

Julian is expected to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Monday night or Tuesday early morning.

PAGASA advised the public and disaster risk reduction and management offices concerned to monitor the weather bureau's advisories regarding thunderstorms and rainfall warnings.

It said flash floods and landslides may occur during times of heavy or prolonged rainfall.

Coastal waters will be moderate to rough over the seaboards of Northern Luzon and the eastern seaboards of Central Luzon, Southern Luzon, and Visayas.

PAGASA warned those with small seacraft to take the necessary precautions.

The next weather updates will be issued at 4 p.m. in PAGASA's public weather forecast and at 11 p.m. in the bureau's severe weather bulletin. —KG, GMA News
