Julian, Habagat to bring scattered rains over parts of Luzon

Track of Typhoon Julian on Aug. 31, 2020

Typhoon Julian and the Southwest Monsoon (Habagat) will bring cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms on Monday over Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon, PAGASA said in its early morning forecast.

Flash floods or landslides may occur during times of moderate to heavy rainfall.

The Southwest Monsoon is affecting the western sections of Luzon and Visayas.

Visayas and Mindanao meanwhile will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers due to the southwest monsoon and localized thunderstorms.

Flash floods or landslides may also occur during severe thunderstorms.

At 3 a.m., the eye of Julian (international name: Maysak) was located over the Philippine Sea at 715 km east of Basco, Batanes, with maximum sustained winds of 150 km/h near the center and gustiness of up to 185 km/h.

Julian, which will not pass through the country's landmass, is moving northward at 20 km/h.

If it does not change track, Julian is expected to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility early Tuesday.

A gale warning was raised over the seaboards of Northern Luzon as coastal waters will moderate to rough.

The seas will also be moderate to rough in Visayas and the rest of Luzon, and slight to moderate in Mindanao.

Sunrise will be at 5:44 a.m. while sunset will be at 6:09 p.m. —KG, GMA News
