Cloudy skies, scattered rains over parts of Visayas, Mindanao due to Ofel and habagat


MIMAROPA, northern Mindanao, Zamboanga Peninsula, BARMM, Western and Central Visayas will have cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms due to Ofel and the southwest monsoon, PAGASA reported.

The weather bureau warns that flash floods or landslides may occur due to scattered light to moderate to at times heavy rains.

As of 3 a.m. on Friday, the center of Tropical Depression Ofel was estimated at 480 kilometers west of Iba, Zambales with maximum sustained winds of 45 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 55 kph and moving in the west northwestward direction at the speed of 20 kph.

Meanwhile, the southwest monsoon will also be affecting southern Luzon and Visayas.

Cagayan Valley and Cordillera Administrative Region will have cloudy skies with isolated light rains brought about by the Northeasterly Surface Windflow with the possible occurrence of flash floods or landslides due to scattered moderate to at times heavy rains.

Ilocos Region and Central Luzon will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains due to the Northeasterly Surface Windflow with no significant impact.

Metro Manila and the rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers due to localized thunderstorms and the Southwest Monsoon with the possibility of the occurrence of flash floods or landslides during severe thunderstorms.

The wind speed forecast for Northern and Central Luzon and the eastern section of Southern Luzon is moderate to strong moving in the Northeast to Southeast direction while coastal waters will be moderate to rough.

The rest of Luzon will have moderate to strong wind speed moving in the Southwest to Southeast direction while coastal waters will remain moderate to rough.

In the Visayas and Mindanao, wind speed will be light to moderate moving in the Southwest to Southeast direction with slight to moderate coastal waters.
