LPA off southern Luzon seen to develop into tropical depression

A low pressure area (LPA) to the east of southern Luzon may develop into a tropical depression within the next 48 hours, PAGASA said Sunday afternoon.

The state weather bureau said the LPA was seen 1,030 kilometers east of Southern Luzon at 4 p.m.

“This weather disturbance is likely to further strengthen while moving generally northwestward over the Philippine Sea towards the northern portion of Luzon,” it said.

“As such, the LPA may develop into a tropical depression in the next 48 hours.”

PAGASA also advised the public and disaster management offices to monitor updates.

The agency said an update on the LPA will be included in the 4 a.m. weather forecast for Monday and again at 11 a.m. — Julia Mari Ornedo/BM, GMA News
