Red rainfall warning up over Kalayaan Islands, orange over Cuyo

PAGASA raised the red rainfall warning over Kalayaan Islands in Palawan at 8 a.m. on Tuesday.

This means more than 30 mm of torrential rain in one hour which may continue in the next two hours, due to the trough of Typhoon Quinta (international name: Molave).

"Serious flooding is expected in low-lying areas and landslides in mountainous areas," PAGASA said.

The orange rainfall warning meanwhile was raised at 8 a.m. over Cuyo Islands in Palawan.

"Flooding is threatening in low-lying areas and landslides in mountainous areas," PAGASA said.

The yellow rainfall warning on the other hand was hoisted at 8 a.m. over the rest of Palawan and Occidental Mindoro.

These areas may have flooding in low-lying areas and landslides in mountainous areas.

At 5 a.m., Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) No. 1 remained hoisted over Kalayaan Islands on Tuesday morning as Quinta is forecast to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility.

The weather bureau advised the public and disaster risk reduction and management councils concerned to take the necessary precautions. —KG, GMA News
