Quinta continues to move away from the Kalayaans, heads for Vietnam

Typhoon Quinta (international name Molave) continued to move away from the Kalayaan Islands, with all Tropical Cyclone Winds Signals now lowered, PAGASA reported Tuesday night.

In its 11 p.m. severe weather bulletin, PAGASA said Quinta was likely to make landfall over the central portion of Vietnam on Wednesday morning.

At 10 p.m., Quinta was 400 kilometers northwest of Pagasa Island, Palawan with maximum sustained winds of 155 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 190 kph.

The typhoon was moving westward at 25 kph.

Hazards

From Tuesday night to Wednesday morning, the outer circulation of Quinta was expected to bring light to moderate with, at times, heavy rain over the Western Visayas, Batanes, the Babuyan Islands, Cagayan, Isabela, Aurora, Occidental Mindoro, Palawan including Calamian, Cuyo, and Kalayaan Islands, the Zamboanga Peninsula, Basilan, Sulu, and Tawi-Tawi.

“Flooding (including flash floods) and rain-induced landslides may occur during heavy or prolonged rainfall especially in areas that are highly or very highly susceptible to these hazards,” PAGASA warned.

Meanwhile, occasional gusty conditions would prevail over the rest of Palawan, including the Calamian and Cuyo Islands, and the coastal areas of Occidental Mindoro, Bataan, and Zambales.

Rough to very rough seas were also expected over the northern and western seaboards of Luzon, making sea travel in these areas risky. — DVM, GMA News
