Auring may intensify into severe tropical storm in 48 hours —PAGASA


Tropical storm Auring, with international name Dujuan, may intensify into a severe tropical storm within 48 hours, PAGASA announced in a 5 p.m. video update Thursday.

According to PAGASA weather specialist Ariel Rojas, Auring was estimated at 640 kilometers east-southeast of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur with maximum sustained winds of 65 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 80 kph at 4 p.m.

It is moving northwestward at 10 kph.

Rojas said Tropical Cyclone Wind Signals may be raised in several areas in Visayas and Mindanao starting Friday.

?The tropical storm may also make landfall over Caraga area on Sunday morning.

Meanwhile, this weekend through Monday, heavy rainfall is expected over the Visayas, the Bicol Region, CALABARZON, MIMAROPA, Caraga, Northern Mindanao, and nearby areas.

PAGASA earlier announced that the trough of Auring is expected to bring cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms over the Eastern Visayas, Caraga, and the Davao Region on Thursday.

The northeast monsoon is also expected to bring cloudy skies with rains over the Cagayan Valley, Aurora, Quezon, and the Bicol Region.
