16 areas under wind signals; Bising keeps strength moving northwest


Typhoon Bising has slightly decelerated but maintained its strength as it traverses the eastern Philippine Sea, state weather bureau PAGASA said early Sunday morning.

In its 5 a.m. bulletin, PAGASA said Bising is moving northwestwards at 15 kilometers per hour (kph) over Philippine sea east of Bicol region and is likely to considerably slow down and turn more northwards by Sunday evening or early Monday morning.

It packs maximum sustained winds of 215 kph near the center and gusts up to 265 kilometers per hour.

Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal (TCWS) No. 2 remains up in:

  • Catanduanes
  • Northern Samar
  • Eastern Samar
  • Samar

Meanwhile, TCWS No. 1 is raised in the following areas:

  • The eastern portion of Camarines Norte (San Lorenzo Ruiz, San Vicente, Vinzons, Talisay, Daet, Mercedes, Basud)
  • Camarines Sur
  • Albay
  • Sorsogon
  • Masbate including Burias and Ticao Islands
  • Biliran
  • Leyte
  • Southern Leyte
  • Northern portion of Cebu (Tabogon, Borbon, San Remigio, Bogo City, Medellin, Daanbantayan) including Bantayan and Camotes Islands
  • Dinagat Islands
  • Surigao del Norte including Siargao and Bucas Grande Islands
  • Northern portion of Surigao del Sur (Cagwait, Tago, Bayabas, Tandag City, Lanuza, Cortes, Carmen, Madrid, Cantilan, Carrascal)

At 4 a.m. on Sunday, Bising was located 400 kilometers east of Catarman, Northern Samar or 470 kilometers east of Juban, Sorsogon.

PAGASA said Bising's rain bands will bring moderate to heavy with at times intense rains over Eastern Visayas and Bicol Region.

Meanwhile, it will also bring moderate to heavy with at times intense rains while experienced over Bicol Region, Northern Samar, Samar, and Eastern Samar.

"Under these conditions, flooding (including flashfloods) and rain-induced landslides are likely to occur especially in areas identified in hazard maps as highly or very highly susceptible to these hazards," PAGASA said. —LBG, GMA News
