Bising to bring moderate to heavy rains over Bicol, Northern Samar


Typhoon Bising slightly weakens as it continues to move northward over the Philippine Sea, according to the late evening Severe Weather Bulletin posted by PAGASA.

Moderate to heavy with at times intense rains will be experienced over Bicol Region and Northern Samar and flooding, including flashfloods, and rain-induced landslides are highly likely to occur especially in highly susceptible areas.

As of 10 p.m. Thursday, the center of the eye of Typhoon Bising was located at 500 kilometers east of Infanta, Quezon with maximum sustained winds of 185 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 230 kph moving northward at 10 kph.

Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) No. 2 is hoisted over the following areas:

  • Catanduanes
  • the eastern portion of Camarines Sur (Sagnay, San Jose, Lagonoy, Garchitorena, Presentacion, Caramoan)
  • the eastern portion of Albay (Tiwi, Malinao, Tabaco City, Malilipot, Bacacay, Rapu-Rapu, Santo Domingo, Legazpi City, Manito)
  • the northeastern portion of Sorsogon (Sorsogon City, Gubat, Barcelona, Prieto Diaz)
  • the extreme northwestern and eastern portions of Northern Samar (San Roque, Biri, Pambujan, Catubig, Laoang, Gamay, Lapinig, Palapag, Mapanas)

The following areas are under TCWS No. 1:

  • Batanes
  • Cagayan including Babuyan Islands
  • Isabela
  • Quirino
  • Apayao
  • the eastern portion of Kalinga (Pinukpuk, Rizal, Tabuk City)
  • the extreme eastern portion of Mountain Province (Paracelis), the extreme eastern portion of Ifugao (Alfonso Lista)
  • the northern portion of Aurora (Baler, Dipaculao, Dinalungan, Casiguran, Dilasag)
  • the eastern portion of Quezon (Calauag, Guinayangan, Tagkawayan, Buenavista, San Narciso, San Andres) including Polillo Islands
  • Camarines Norte
  • the rest of Camarines Sur
  • the rest of Albay
  • the rest of Sorsogon
  • Masbate including Burias and Ticao Islands
  • the rest of Northern Samar
  • Samar
  • Eastern Samar
  • Biliran
  • the northern portion of Leyte (Tabango, San Isidro, Calubian, Leyte, Capoocan, Carigara, Jaro, Pastrana, Palo, Barugo, Tunga, Alangalang, Santa Fe, Tacloban City, San Miguel, Babatngon, Dagami, Tabontabon, Tolosa, Tanauan)

Tropical cyclone winds of at least strong breeze to near gale in strength extend outward up to 500 kilomters is expected from the center of the typhoon while destructive typhoon-force winds extend to 110 kilometers from the center of the typhoon.

The northeasterly wind flow enhanced by the typhoon will also bring strong breeze to near gale conditions with higher gusts over the rest of Northern Luzon and the rest of Aurora and Quezon that are not under any Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) including coastal and mountainous areas

Hazards affecting coastal waters

Sea travel is risky in the affected areas, PAGASA also reported.

Very rough to high seas over the northern and eastern seaboards of Luzon and rough to high seas over the northern and eastern seaboards of Eastern Visayas.

Rough to very rough seas over the northern and western seaboards of Northern Luzon and rough seas over the eastern seaboards of Caraga and Davao Oriental and the remaining seaboards of areas under TCWS.

Mariners of small seacrafts along Central Luzon western seaboard due to moderate to rough seas.

Track and Intensity Outlook

Bising will move generally northward or north northwestward until Wednesday evening or early morning on Thursday.

Then the typhoon will move northeastward from the landmass of Luzon throughout Thursday and east northeastward to eastward on Friday and Saturday and projected to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Sunday. -- BAP, GMA News
