ITCZ to bring rain, thunderstorms over 4 areas

The Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) is expected to bring cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers or thunderstorms over the Eastern Visayas, Caraga, Northern Mindanao, and the Zamboanga Peninsula, PAGASA said Saturday.

In its 24-hour forecast, the weather agency warned affected residents against possible flash floods or landslides during moderate to, at times, heavy rains.

Meanwhile, partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers are expected to prevail over Metro Manila and the rest of the country due to Easterlies and localized thunderstorms.

PAGASA said flash floods and landslides are also possible during severe thunderstorms.

According to PAGASA, moderate to heavy rainshowers with lightning and strong winds are expected over Tarlac, Pampanga, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, and Bataan within the next two hours.

As of posting time, the weather agency said the same conditions are currently being experienced in Metro Manila, Bulacan, Quezon, Nueva Ecija, and Zambales, which may persist within two hours and affect other areas.

Specific areas currently affected include Caloocan, Malabon, Navotas, Valenzuela, Obando, Meycauayan, Bocaue, Bulacan, Infanta, Cabanatuan, Santa Rosa, and Botolan.

The weather agency advised affected residents to take precautionary measures against flash floods and landslides.

A report on 24 Oras on Saturday, said strong rains were experienced on Friday in Cotabato City and South Cotabato, including in Lake Sebu and Barangay Tampakan, where a poulty farm and banana plantation were destroyed.

Floods also hit Calinan in Davao City after a river overflowed, and Barangay Del Carmen in Iligan City.

The opposite happened in M'lang in Cotabato, where temperatures rose to 38°C. -MDM, GMA News
