Dante intensifies, will bring rains over Caraga, Davao

Tropical Depression Dante intensified on Sunday morning and is expected to bring rains over Caraga and the Davao Region, PAGASA said in its 11 a.m. bulletin.

Light to moderate with at times heavy rains are forecast to affect Caraga and Davao Region in the next 24 hours.

These rains may cause flooding and rain-induced landslides particularly in areas prone to these hazards.

Areas adjacent or nearby hazard-prone places may also have flooding due to surface runoff or swelling of river channels.

As of posting time, no Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal has been raised.

“However, given the uncertainty in its track forecast, any further westward shift in the track forecast may lead to the hoisting of TCWS over the eastern portion of the country,” PAGASA said.

At 10 a.m., the center of Dante was located 820 km east of Mindanao.

It has maximum sustained winds of 55 km/h near the center, and gustiness of up to 70 km/h. Central pressure was measured at 1002 hPa.

Dante is moving westward at 25 km/h over the Philippine Sea.

It is expected to become a tropical storm by Monday morning, move northwestward until Tuesday evening, then turn north northwestward. —KG, GMA News
