All signals lifted as TD Lannie moves over West Philippine Sea

All tropical cyclone wind signals have been lifted even though Tropical Depression Lannie has maintained its strength while moving west-northwestward over the West Philippine Sea late Tuesday morning.

In its 11 a.m. bulletin, PAGASA, however, said that the enhanced easterly flow north and southwesterly flow south of Lannie may bring occasionally gusts reaching near gale to at times gale-force in the following areas in the next 24 hours:

  • Extreme Northern Luzon
  • coastal and upland/mountainous areas of Cordillera Administrative Region
  • mainland Cagayan Valley
  • Ilocos Norte
  • Central Luzon
  • CALABARZON
  • MIMAROPA
  • Bicol Region
  • Western Visayas
  • Zamboanga Peninsula
  • Bangsamoro

Based on the forecast track, Lannie is likely exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) on Wednesday afternoon or evening, according to PAGASA. It will likely remain a tropical depression on Tuesday.

As of 10 a.m., Lannie's center was estimated based on all available data at 165 km west of Coron, Palawan. It has maximum sustained winds of 45 km/h near the center, gustiness of up to 55 km/h, and central pressure of 1002 hPa.

PAGASA said Lannie is moving west northwestward at 25 km/h with strong winds or higher extend outwards up to 130 km from the center.

Effects

From Monday to Tuesday, Lannie made several landfalls and brought rains to many areas in the Visayas.

According to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NRRDMC), landslide and flooding were reported as a result of Lannie's rains.

In its 8 a.m. report on Tuesday, the NDRRMC said a rain-induced landslide was reported in Eastern Visayas while five flooding incidents, as well as an uprooted tree, were reported in Western Visayas.

At least seven families or 30 people in Eastern Visayas have preemptively evacuated from their homes. Meanwhile, three roads are not passable in Eastern Visayas and Western Visayas, while four roads that were previously affected are now passable.

Some 12 ports have suspended their operations due to the threat of Lannie.

At least 221 passengers, 130 rolling cargoes, and three vessels were stranded in Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Western Visayas, and Eastern Visayas.

A class and work suspension was reported in Eastern Visayas, the NDRRMC said.

Forecast

PAGASA also said moderate to heavy rains are likely over Palawan including Calamian, Kalayaan, and Cuyo Islands, while light to moderate with at times heavy rains is possible over Cordillera Administrative Region, Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, Metro Manila, CALABARZON, Bicol Region, Western Visayas, and the rest of MIMAROPA.

Gale Warning is also currently in effect over the northern and western seaboards of Northern Luzon due to the tropical depression enhancing the easterly flow.

Moderate to rough seas will prevail over the rest of coastal waters of the country, the state weather bureau added. Mariners are thus advised to take precautionary measures when venturing out to sea and, if possible, avoid navigating in the said conditions. —Jamil Santos/KBK, GMA News
