Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 2 was hoisted over six areas in Luzon as Storm Maring moves west northwestward over the Philippine Sea east of Cagayan, PAGASA said Sunday.

In its 5 p.m. severe weather bulletin, PAGASA said the center of Maring was located 645 kilometers east of Tuguegarao City, Cagayan or 655 km east of Aparri, Cagayan at 4 p.m. with maximum sustained winds of 85 km per hour near the center, gustiness of up to 105 km/h, and central pressure of 990 hPa.

It is moving west northwestward at 20 kph.

  • the northern portion of Kalinga (Balbalan, Pinukpuk, Rizal, City of Tabuk)
  • the northeastern portion of Ilocos Norte (Pagudpud, Adams, Dumalneg, Bangui, Vintar, Carasi)

Meanwhile, TCWS No. 1 was raised over the following:

From Sunday night to Monday evening, PAGASA said Maring will bring moderate to heavy with at times intense rains over Batanes, Cagayan including Babuyan Islands, Cordillera Administrative Region, and Ilocos Region, while light to moderate rains with at times heavy rains may prevail over Central Luzon and the rest of Cagayan Valley.

It added that the enhancement of the Southwesterly winds may bring rains over the Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, Palawan, and Occidental Mindoro.

PAGASA said winds may reach gale to storm-force strength over areas under TCWS No. 2 which may result in light to moderate damage to structures and vegetation.

"Due to the expansive wind field of the tropical storm and the enhancement of the southwesterly and northeasterly winds, occasional gusts reaching strong breeze to near gale in strength are possible in the next 24 hours over the coastal and upland/mountain areas of MIMAROPA, Bicol Region, Visayas, Caraga, and NPAGASA added that strong winds (strong breeze to near gale conditions) with higher gusts will be felt in areas under TCWS No. 1, which may generally bring up to very light damage to structures and vegetation.

Northern Mindanao areas are not under TCWS," PAGASA said.

Further, a gale warning is in effect for eastern seaboards of Central and Southern Luzon and the northern coast of Northern Samar.

In the next 24 hours, PAGASA said moderate to rough seas will prevail over the remaining seaboards of Luzon and Visayas, and the northern and eastern seaboards of Mindanao.

"These conditions are risky for those using small sea crafts. Mariners are advised to take precautionary measures when venturing out to sea and, if possible, avoid navigating in these conditions," PAGASA warned. —LBG, GMA News
