Red, orange, yellow rainfall warnings up over parts of Palawan, Occidental Mindoro
PAGASA raised the red, orange, and yellow rainfall warnings over parts of Palawan and Occidental Mindoro at 8 a.m. on Tuesday due to Severe Tropical Storm Maring (international name: Kompasu) and the Southwest Monsoon.
The red rainfall warning is in effect over the following areas in Palawan:
- Kalayaan Islands
- Bataraza
- Balabac
- Rizal
- Brooke's Point
- Quezon
- Sofronio Espanola
- Narra
The above mentioned areas were warned of torrential rains which may cause serious flooding expected in low-lying areas and landslides in mountainous areas.
The rainfall expected is more than 30 mm in one hour, which may continue in the next two hours.
The orange rainfall warning meanwhile was hoisted over the following areas in Palawan:
- Aborlan
- Puerto Princesa
- Roxas
- San Vicente
- Cagayancillo
Flooding and landslides are threatening in areas susceptible to these hazards. Intense rains measuring 15-30 mm are to be expected in one hour which may continue in the next two hours.
The yellow rainfall warning on the other hand was raised over:
- Occidental Mindoro
- parts of Palawan
- Taytay
- Dumaran
- Aracelli
- Cuyo
- Magsaysay
- Agutaya,
- El Nido
- Linapacan
- Culion
- Busuanga
- Coron
Areas under the yellow rainfall warning were warned of possible flooding in low-lying areas and landslides in mountainous areas. Heavy rains measuring 7.5 to 15 mm may be expected in one hour which may continue in the next two hours.
In its 8 a.m. weather bulletin, PAGASA said monsoon rains may be expected over Western Visayas, Palawan, and Occidental Mindoro in the next 24 hours as Maring is enhancing the Southwest Monsoon. —KG, GMA News
