Shear line, easterlies to bring scattered rains over parts of Luzon

The shear line currently affecting the northeastern section of Northern Luzon will bring scattered rains over parts of Luzon on Sunday, PAGASA said in its early morning forecast.

Batanes, Cagayan, Isabela, Aurora, Quezon, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, and Catanduanes will have cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms due to the shear line and the easterlies. Flash floods or landslides may occur during times of moderate to heavy rains.

The shear line is defined by the American Meteorological Society as a line or narrow zone across which there is an abrupt change in the horizontal wind component parallel to this line.

Meanwhile the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) or the area where the northeast and southeast trade winds converge is affecting Palawan and Mindanao.

Palawan, Basilan, Sulu, and Tawi-Tawi will have cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms due to the ITCZ. These areas may have flash floods or landslides during moderate to heavy rains.

The Northeast Monsoon (Amihan) meanwhile will cause partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains over Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, Apayao, and Abra.

Metro Manila and the rest of the country on the other hand will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to the easterlies and localized thunderstorms. During severe thunderstorms, flash floods or landslides may result.

Coastal waters will be moderate to rough in the seaboards of Luzon, and slight to moderate in Visayas and Mindanao.
