Tropical storm Nyatoh to enter PAR on Wednesday —PAGASA

Tropical storm Nyatoh will enter the Philippine area of responsibility on Wednesday as it continues to move west northwestward toward the country's jurisdiction, according to PAGASA.

In its 11 p.m. tropical cyclone advisory, the tropical storm was last located at 1,395 kilometers east of southern Luzon, moving maximum sustained winds of up to 75 kilometers per hour and gustiness up to 90 kph, moving west northwestward at 15 kph.

Once the tropical storm enters PAR, it will be named "Odette."

"Tropical Storm Nyatoh is forecast to move west northwestward in the next 24 hours and may enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) tomorrow afternoon or evening. Once inside the PAR, the domestic name “ODETTE” will be assigned to this tropical cyclone," read the advisory.

"Based on the current track forecast, its duration within the PAR region will be short, as it may leave the region within 24 to 36 hours of entry. However, the public is advised to continue monitoring for possible eastward or westward shifts in the track forecast of the tropical storm," it added.

Further, PAGASA said the tropical storm will intensify into a severe tropical storm in the next 24 hours and will possibly turn into typhoon category by Thursday.

"A peak intensity of around 140 km/h may be reached by Friday," it also indicated.

Tropical storm Nyatoh is also expected to affect the country for the next three to five days, PAGASA also said.

The government's disaster risk reduction and management office are advised to monitor the weather disturbance's developments, said PAGASA.—LDF, GMA News
