Cloudy skies, scattered rains to prevail over parts of Luzon due to shear line, Amihan

The shear line (tail-end of frontal system) will affect the eastern section of Southern Luzon while the Northeast Monsoon or Amihan will bring light rains over Northern and Central Luzon, the weather bureau PAGASA said on Saturday.

According to PAGASA’s 4 p.m. weather forecast, Calabarzon, Bicol Region, Eastern Visayas, Marinduque, and Oriental Mindoro will experience cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms caused by the shear line with possible flooding or landslides during moderate to heavy rains.

Cagayan Valley, Apayao, Kalinga, Ifugao, Mt. Province, and Aurora will have cloudy skies with light rains due to the Northeast Monsoon.

Metro Manila, Ilocos Region, and the rest of Cordillera Administrative Region and Central Luzon will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains.

The rest of the country will have partly cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms with possible flash floods or landslides during severe thunderstorms.

PAGASA said it also continues to monitor the low pressure area (LPA) outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR). It was spotted 2,340 kilometers east of Mindanao as of 3 a.m.  Saturday.

The weather bureau said the LPA may develop into a tropical cyclone within 48 hours and will likely enter PAR on Tuesday. It will be given the name “Odette" once it enters PAR.

Meanwhile, the wind speed forecast for Luzon, Visayas, and the eastern section of Mindanao is moderate to strong while coastal waters will be moderate to rough.

The rest of Mindanao will experience light to moderate wind speed while coastal waters will be slight to moderate.

The sun will rise at 6:11 a.m. Sunday.  — Richa Noriega/VBL, GMA News
