Domeng intensifies, slows down, enhances southwest monsoon

Tropical Storm Domeng intensifies and decelerates while moving northward over the Philippine Sea, PAGASA posted early Saturday morning.

The center of was estimated based on all available data 975 kilometers east northeast of Itbayat, Batanes with maximum sustained winds of 85 kilometers near the center and gustiness of up to 105 km/h and moving north northwestward at 15 km/h.

Severe Tropical Storm Chaba (formerly Caloy), which is outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), is located 1,040 kilometers west of northern Luzon with maximum sustained winds of 110 kilometers per hour, gustiness of up to 135 km/h and moving north northwestward at 15 km/h.

Domeng is not directly affecting the archipelago at this time but the southwest monsoon enhanced by this weather system and the Severe Tropical Storm Chaba (formerly Caloy) outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) will continue to affect the western sections of central and southern Luzon.

Batanes, Babuyan Islands, Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union, Pangasinan, Zambales, Bataan, and Kalayaan Islands will have cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms brought about by the southwest monsoon with possible flash floods or landslides due to moderate to at times heavy rains.

Metro Manila and the rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to localized thunderstorms with possible flash floods or landslides during severe thunderstorms.

The wind speed forecast in the northern and western sections of Luzon is moderate to strong moving in the south to southwest direction while coastal waters will be moderate to strong.

The rest of the country will experience light to moderate wind speed moving in the southeast to south direction while coastal waters will be slight to moderate.

Severe Winds

No tropical cyclone wind signal is currently hoisted for this tropical cyclone.

The Southwest Monsoon, enhanced by Domeng and Chaba, will bring occasionally gusty conditions reaching strong breeze to gale-force in strength over extreme northern Luzon, the northern and western portions of Luzon, and the western portion of Visayas.

Hazards affecting coastal waters

A Gale Warning remains in effect over the western seaboards of northern and central Luzon as moderate to rough seas will also prevail over the remaining seaboards of northern Luzon and the western seaboard of southern Luzon. These conditions may be risky for those using small seacrafts so mariners are advised to take precautionary measures.

Track and Intensity outloook

Tropical Storm Domeng is forecast to gradually accelerate northward or north northwestward over the Philippine Sea, then northwestward today as it exits the PAR this morning or afternoon.
