Habagat affecting Batanes, Babuyan Islands

The Southwest Monsoon or Habagat will be affecting the western section of Luzon, bringing cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over Batanes and Babuyan Islands, PAGASA said Sunday.

In its 4 p.m. weather forecast, PAGASA said flash floods or landslides may result during times of moderate to heavy rains in those areas.

Metro Manila and the rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms.

This could result in flash floods or landslides during severe thunderstorms.

Meanwhile, PAGASA said it is also monitoring Tropical Storm Chaba (formerly known as Caloy), which was last spotted 1,230 kilometers west northwest of extreme northern Luzon, or outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) as of 3 p.m.

It has sustained maximum winds of 65 kilometers per hour, and gustiness of up to 110 kph. It was moving northward at 20 kph, the weather bureau said.

Further, wind speeds in northern and western section of Luzon are expected to be moderate to strong with moderate to strong coastal water conditions, ranging from 1.2 to 3.1

Light to moderate wind speeds will be experienced by the rest of the country with slight to moderate coastal water conditions, ranging from 0.6 to 2.5 meters. — Mel Matthew Doctor/BM, GMA News
