Trough of LPA to bring rain to Palawan, parts of Visayas and Mindanao

The trough of a low-pressure area is expected to bring rain showers to Palawan and parts of Visayas and Mindanao, PAGASA said in its 4 p.m. weather forecast.

According to the state weather bureau, at 3 p.m. Sunday, the low pressure area (LPA) was estimated at 1,010 kilometers east of Central Luzon. The trough of the LPA is forecast to bring cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms Palawan, Central and Western Visayas, Caraga, Northern Mindanao, and Zamboanga Peninsula.

Moreover, cloudy skies with rains will prevail over Batanes and Babuyan Islands due to the northeasterly surface windflow.

Flash floods or landslides may occur due to moderate to at time heavy rains, the state weather bureau said.

Metro Manila and the rest of the country will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms.

Affected residents were advised to prepare for possible flash floods or landslides during severe thunderstorms.

The wind speed forecast for extreme Northern Luzon is strong while coastal water conditions will be rough, ranging from 2.8 meters to 4.0.

The rest of Northern Luzon will have moderate to strong wind speeds with moderate to rough coastal water conditions, with waves ranging from 1.2 to 2.8 meters.

Further, light to moderate wind speed will prevail over the rest of the country, while coastal water conditions will be slight to moderate. — Mel Matthew Doctor/BM, GMA News
