Batanes, Babuyan Islands, Cagayan to have scattered rain showers due to LPA's trough

The trough or extension of a low pressure area (LPA) and the frontal system will cause cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over Batanes, Babuyan Islands, and Cagayan on Monday, PAGASA said in its weather forecast.

Flash floods or landslides may result due to moderate to heavy rains.

At 3 a.m., the LPA was estimated to be located at 590 km east of Tuguegarao City, Cagayan.

"Maliit ang tsansa na maging bagyo," PAGASA weather specialist Robert Badrina said in an interview on GMA News' Unang Balita.

(It has a small chance of developing into a tropical depression.)

PAGASA is also monitoring another LPA estimated to be located at 1,880 km east of Eastern Visayas which is still outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility.

"Hindi pa ito nakakaapekto sa bansa," Badrina said.

(It is not yet affecting the country.)

Meanwhile, Metro Manila and the rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to localized thunderstorms. During severe thunderstorms, flash floods or landslides may result.

Coastal waters will be rough in the seaboards of Northern Luzon, with waves possibly reaching up to 4 meters.

The seas will be moderate to rough in the rest of Luzon, with wave heights estimated to be up to 2.8 meters.

Meanwhile, in the rest of the country, coastal waters will be slight to moderate.
