PAGASA: Signal No. 1 raised over parts of Isabela, Quirino, Aurora

Parts of three provinces in Luzon remained under Signal Number 1 late Wednesday night as Tropical Depression Maymay maintained its strength while moving westward, the weather bureau PAGASA said Tuesday.

In its 11 p.m. bulletin, PAGASA said the center of the eye of the tropical depression was last seen 70 kilometers east of Casiguran, Aurora.

It is heading westward at 20 kilometers per hour and has maximum sustained winds of 45 kph near the center, gustiness of up to 55 kph, and a central pressure of 1004 hPa.

Storm Signal Number 1 remains hoisted over the following areas:

• Eastern portion of Isabela (San Mariano, Dinapigue, San Guillermo, San Pablo, Ilagan City, Benito Soliven, San Agustin, Palanan, Divilacan, Jones, Maconacon, Tumauini, Echague, Cabagan)

• Eastern portion of Quirino (Maddela, Nagtipunan, Aglipay, Saguday)

• Northern portion of Aurora (Casiguran, Dinalungan, Dilasag, Dipaculao)

Strong winds may prevail within any of the areas where the storm signal was in effect, said PAGASA.

A marine gale warning also remains in effect over the seaboards of Northern Luzon, Central, and the eastern seaboard of Southern Luzon due to the influence of the tropical cyclone and the surge of northeasterly surface wind flow, it added.

The weather bureau warned these conditions may be risky for those using small seacrafts, adding mariners should take precautionary measures when venturing out to sea and, if possible, avoid navigating to ensure their safety.

Maymay is forecast to continue moving generally westward towards the eastern coast of Isabela or Aurora. It is forecast to deteriorate into a remnant low within the next 12 hours prior to landfall.

Tropical depression outside PAR

Meanwhile, the tropical depression located outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) is continuously moving northwestward while maintaining its strength.

As of 10 P.M., the tropical cyclone was seen 1,830 kms east of Northern Luzon. It has maximum sustained winds of 45 kph near the center, gustiness of up to 55 km/h and is moving west northwestward at 20 kph.

It is forecast to continue moving northwestward in the next 24 hours and may enter PAR by Thursday morning or afternoon. Upon entering the country’s responsibility, it will move westward towards extreme Northern Luzon.

Signal No. 2 may be raised over Batanes and several provinces in North Luzon after its entry to PAR, PAGASA said. —NB, GMA News
