LPA, shear line, Amihan to bring rains over several areas

A low pressure area (LPA), shear line and the Northeast Monsoon (Amihan) will bring rains over several areas on Monday, PAGASA said in its weather forecast.

The Bicol Region, mainland Cagayan, Isabela, Aurora, Quezon, and Northern Samar will have cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms due to the LPA and shear line. Moderate to heavy with at times intense rains may possibly lead to flash floods or landslides.

At 3 a.m. Monday, the LPA was estimated to be located at 195 km north of Legazpi City Albay or 210 km east of Infanta, Quezon.

"Ang likeliness na magiging tropical cyclone ang LPA ay naging mataas... Hindi natin tinatanggal ang possibility na ito ay maging tropical depression o ganap na bagyo," PAGASA weather specialist Veronica Torres said in an interview on Unang Balita.

(The likelihood of the LPA intensifying into a tropical cyclone became higher. We are not discounting the possibility that the LPA may develop into a tropical depression or storm.)

The Northeast Monsoon (Amihan) meanwhile is affecting Northern Luzon.

The rest of Cagayan Valley, Cordillera Administrative Region, and Ilocos Norte will have cloudy skies with rains due to the monsoon. Flash floods or landslides may result due to moderate to at times heavy rains.

Mindanao, the rest of Visayas, and Mimaropa will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to the LPA and localized thunderstorms. During severe thunderstorms, flash floods or landslides may occur.

Meanwhile, Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with light rains due to the Amihan.

Coastal waters will be moderate to rough throughout the country.
