PAGASA: Dangerous heat index expected in 13 areas on Sunday


PAGASA predicted that thirteen areas of the country would experience dangerous heat index levels on Sunday.

According to the weather service's Saturday-5 p.m. heat index forecast, the following areas would see the heat index rise to 42°C to 44°C:

  • Dagupan City, Pangasinan – 44°C
  • Bacnotan, La Union – 42°C
  • Aparri, Cagayan – 42°C
  • Tuguegarao City, Cagayan – 42°C
  • San Jose, Occidental Mindoro – 42°C
  • Puerto Princesa City, Palawan – 43°C
  • Aborlan, Palawan – 44°C
  • Virac (Synop), Catanduanes – 43°C
  • Roxas City, Capiz – 44°C
  • Iloilo City, Iloilo – 42°C
  • Dumangas, Iloilo – 42°C
  • Catarman, Northern Samar – 42°C
  • Guiuan, Eastern Samar – 43°C

The lowest heat index levels were predicted in Baguio City, Benguet; and BSU, La Trinidad, Benguet at 28°C.

Heat indexes that rise to dangerous levels may cause heat cramps and heat exhaustion, as well as heat stroke, for individuals exposed to continuous heat.

PAGASA recommended limited outdoor activity, consistent hydration, and wearing fresh clothes to combat the effects of the heat. — DVM, GMA Integrated News
