Danger level heat index possible in 16 areas on May 25


The heat index may reach the danger level in 16 areas of the country on Saturday, according to the state weather bureau PAGASA on Friday.

These areas are the following:

—MMSU, Batac, Ilocos Norte

—Tuguegarao City, Cagayan

—Puerto Princesa City, Palawan
—Aborlan, Palawan
—Cuyo, Palawan
—Zamboanga City, Zamboanga del Sur

—NAIA, Pasay City
—Iba, Zambales
—Cubi Pt., Subic Bay, Olongapo City
—Sangley Point, Cavite

On Friday, 23 areas experienced a heat index falling under the danger level, which is from 42°C to 51°C.

PAGASA defines heat index as the measure of the temperature that a person feels, which is different from the actual air temperature. It is computed by factoring in the humidity and the air temperature.

In areas with a dangerous heat index, people may experience heat cramps and heat exhaustion, according to PAGASA. Heat stroke is also possible with continued exposure. —VBL, GMA Integrated News
