PAGASA records above normal rainfall for December

Residents attempt to help a motorist cross a flooded in Tagkawayan in Quezon province this week.

PAGASA recorded above normal rainfall over parts of the country for the first two weeks of December, according to a 24 Oras report on Thursday.

Despite the absence of typhoons within the Philippine Area of Responsibility for the first two weeks of the month, the effects of the  Shear Line and the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) caused above-normal rains and flooding over Cagayan Valley, parts of Quezon and Camarines Norte, Palawan, Negros Oriental, and almost all of Mindanao from December 1 to 11, 2024.

While the Shear Line has weakened recently, the ITCZ, Northeast Monsoon and the easterlies continue to affect the country.

According to PAGASA’s daily weather forecast on Thursday afternoon, the Northeast Monsoon or Amihan and the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) are predicted to bring cloudy skies over several parts of the country.

Possible flash floods or landslides may occur in some areas as a result of said weather conditions.
