Signal No. 1 raised over Davao Oriental due to Querubin

Weather agency PAGASA on Tuesday afternoon raised Signal No. 1 over Davao Oriental because of Tropical Depression Querubin.

''Strong winds may be experienced, posing a minimal to minor threat to life and property,'' PAGASA said in its 5 p.m. tropical cyclone bulletin.

''It must also be emphasized that the shear line and Querubin may potentially bring heavy to intense rainfall over several areas in Visayas and Mindanao outside the radius of Querubin.''

At 3 p.m., Querubin was spotted 215 km east southeast of Davao City with maximum sustained winds of 45 km/h near the center and gustiness of up to 55 km/h. It was moving south southwestward slowly.

Querubin is expected to move east northeastward while slowly moving away from the Davao Region over the next 12 hours before turning northward on Wednesday.

It will then cross Mindanao and Palawan from Wednesday afternoon until Sunday afternoon, December 22, as a remnant low.

''For the entire forecast period, Querubin may remain as a tropical depression before weakening into a remnant low by tomorrow (Wednesday). Re-intensification into a tropical depression after traversing Mindanao or Palawan is not ruled out,'' PAGASA said. — VBL, GMA Integrated News
