San Jose, Occidental Mindoro to see ‘danger’ heat index on March 6, 2025

People in San Jose, Occidental Mindoro may have to bear a “danger” level of heat index on Thursday, March 6, PAGASA said Wednesday.

According to its 5 p.m. heat index forecast, PAGASA said San Jose, Occidental Mindoro may experience a heat index of 42°C.

The heat index measures how hot it feels to the human body, factoring in humidity along with the actual air temperature.

A heat index between 42°C and 51°C is under the “danger” category, which poses health risks such as heat cramps, heat exhaustion, and heat stroke.

On Wednesday, five areas experienced a heat index of at least 42°C: ISU Echague, Isabela (42°C), Baler (Radar), Aurora (42°C), San Jose, Occidental Mindoro (42°C), Virac (Synop), Catanduanes (43°C), and CBSUA-Pili, Camarines Sur (42°C).

On Thursday, NAIA Pasay City will see a heat index of 40°C, while Science Garden Quezon City will experience 39°C.

A heat index from 33°C to 41°C is under the “extreme caution” category, where heat cramps and heat exhaustion are possible, and continuing activity could lead to heat stroke.

To mitigate the impact of hot weather, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority said it offers a 30-minute break to its traffic enforcers and street sweepers.

Meanwhile, the Department of Education said it has started implementing measures to safeguard the health and well-being of students and personnel from the scorching heat, like adjusting the class schedules. — Mariel Celine Serquiña/VBL, GMA Integrated News
