10 areas to face ‘danger level’ heat index on Thursday, April 17, 2025

Ten areas are expected to experience ''danger level'' heat index on Thursday, PAGASA said in a forecast.

According to the state weather bureau’s 5 p.m. April 16 bulletin, the synoptic station in Dagupan City, Pangasinan and CBSUA-Pili, Camarines Sur will measure a heat index of 43°C.

Meanwhile, 42°C heat index is expected in the following places:

  • Tuguegarao City, Cagayan
  • ISU Echague, Isabela
  • TAU Camiling, Tarlac
  • Sangley Point, Cavite City, Cavite
  • Iloilo City
  • Dumangas, Iloilo
  • Catarman, Northern Samar
  • Butuan City, Agusan Del Norte

Among the synoptic stations in Metro Manila, NAIA Pasay City is predicted to measure a heat index of 40°C, and 38°C in Science Garden, Quezon City.

The heat index measures how hot it feels to the human body, factoring in humidity along with the actual air temperature.

The state weather bureau categorizes areas with a 42°C to 51°C heat index in the "danger" category, with a risk for heat stroke.

Meanwhile, a heat index from 33°C to 41°C is in the “extreme caution” category, where heat cramps and heat exhaustion are possible.

The Department of Health has advised Filipinos who have prolonged sun exposure to drink as much as 10 glasses of water daily after the heat index reached 50°C in Los Baños, Laguna on Tuesday. —Jiselle Anne Casucian/VBL, GMA Integrated News
