Southwest Monsoon to bring rains over parts of Luzon

The Southwest Monsoon (Habagat) is affecting Luzon on Sunday and will bring rains over several areas, according to PAGASA's weather forecast.

Ilocos Region, Batanes, Babuyan Islands, Zambales, and Bataan may expect monsoon rains, with the possibility of flash floods or landslides due to moderate to at times heavy rains.

PAGASA, in its heavy rainfall outlook, said Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, Pangasinan, La Union, Abra, Batanes, Babuyan Islands, Zambales, and Bataan may possibly have 50-100 mm of rainfall today.

Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon meanwhile may experience cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms. Moderate to at times heavy rains may possibly result in flash floods or landslides.

PAGASA declared the start of the Habagat or Southwest Monsoon season on May 30.

Visayas and Mindanao on the other hand will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to localized thunderstorms. During severe thunderstorms, flash floods or landslides may occur.

Coastal waters will be moderate to rough in Extreme Northern Luzon, and slight to moderate in the rest of the country.
