Trough of Bising affecting extreme N. Luzon, Habagat affecting rest of PH

The trough of Tropical Storm Bising (international name: Danas) will continue to bring scattered rains and thunderstorms over extreme northern Luzon while the Southwest Monsoon, or habagat, is affecting the rest of the country, according to PAGASA.

In a weather advisory on Saturday, PAGASA said scattered rains and thunderstorms are expected over Babuyan and the Babuyan Islands in the next 24 hours due to the trough of Tropical Storm Bising.

Similar weather conditions are expected over Metro Manila, Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, Central Luzon, CALABARZON, MIMAROPA, and the rest of Cagayan Valley because of the Southwest Monsoon.

As of 10 a.m., the center of Tropical Storm DANAS was estimated, based on all available data, to be 460 km West of Basco, Batanes (20.1°N, 117.6°E). It is moving east northeastward slowly and has maximum sustained winds of 75 km/h near the center, gustiness of up to 90 km/h, and central pressure of 994 hPa. Its strong winds extend outwards up to 330 km from the center.

"Considering these developments, the public and disaster risk reduction and management offices concerned are advised to continue monitoring for updates related to this tropical cyclone," said PAGASA. 

"(Bising) DANAS is forecast to intensify into a Severe Tropical Storm within the next 24 hours and is expected to maintain its strength while passing over Taiwan Strait," it added.

PAGASA also said that Bising may "re-entry over the northwestern boundary of PAR" by Monday for a short period. —

Rough waters

Meanwhile, PAGASA said that rough seas are expected over the following coastal waters:

•  Up to 3.0 m: The seaboard of Batanes and the western seaboards of Ilocos Norte and Babuyan Islands.

Under these conditions, mariners of small seacrafts, including all types of motorbancas, are advised not to venture out to sea, especially if inexperienced or operating ill-equipped vessels.

Meanwhile, moderate seas will be over the following coastal waters:

• Up to 2.5 m: The northwestern seaboard of Ilocos Sur and the remaining seaboards of Ilocos Norte.
• Up to 2.0 m: The western seaboards of La Union, Pangasinan, and Zambales, and the remaining seaboard of Ilocos Sur.

Under these conditions, mariners of motorbancas and similarly-sized vessels are advised to take precautionary measures while venturing out to sea and, if possible, avoid navigation. —VAL, GMA Integrated News
