Trough of LPA, Habagat to bring cloudy skies, rains over PH

The trough of the Low Pressure Area (LPA) and the southwest monsoon or habagat will bring cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over the country on Thursday, PAGASA reported.

The state weather bureau also reported that the LPA was estimated at 435 kilometers west of Sangley Point, Cavite City, Cavite with the habagat affecting Southern Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.

As of 2 a.m., the LPA 08g being monitored inside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) has a "high" potential of developing into a tropical depression within the next 24 hours.

Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, Zambales, Bataan, Tarlac, Pampanga, Isabela, Quirino, and Nueva Vizcaya will have cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms due to the trough of the LPA with the possibility that flash floods or landslides occurring due to moderate to at times heavy rains.

Visayas, MIMAROPA, Bicol Region, Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao, Caraga, and Quezon will have cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms due to the southwest monsoon with possible occurrence of flash floods or landslides due to moderate to at times heavy rains.

Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to the trough of the LPA with the possibility that flash floods or landslides will occur during severe thunderstorms.

The rest of Mindanao will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to the southwest monsoon with possible flash floods or landslides occurring during severe thunderstorms.

The western sections of Southern Luzon and Visayas will experience moderate to strong wind speed moving in the southwest to south direction while coastal waters will be moderate to rough.

Extreme Northern Luzon will experience moderate wind speed moving eastward with moderate coastal waters.

The rest of Luzon will experience light to moderate wind speed moving in the southwest to southeast direction while coastal waters will be slight to moderate.

Mindanao and the rest of Visayas will experience light to moderate wind speed moving southwestward while coastal waters will be slight to moderate.
