Mirasol makes landfall in Casiguran, Aurora


Tropical Depression Mirasol has made landfall in Casigura, Aurora, according to PAGASA.

A total of 15 areas in Luzon remain under Signal No. 1.

In its 5 a.m. tropical cyclone bulletin, the weather bureau said that based on the intensity forecast, Mirasol will likely intensify into a tropical storm when it re-emerges over the Luzon Strait. With this intensification, hoisting of Wind Signal No. 2 is possible over some portions of Northern Luzon, it said.

The center of Mirasol was estimated in the vicinity of Casiguran, Aurora. It has maximum sustained winds of 55 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 70 km/h.  It is moving northwestward at 10 km/h.

The following Luzon areas are under Signal No. 1:

  • Batanes
  • Cagayan including Babuyan Islands
  • Isabela
  • Quirino
  • Nueva Vizcaya
  • the northern and central portions of Aurora (Dilasag, Casiguran, Dinalungan, Dipaculao, Baler, Maria Aurora, San Luis)
  • Apayao
  • Abra
  • Kalinga
  • Mountain Province
  • Ifugao
  • the northern and eastern portions of Benguet (Bakun, Mankayan, Kabayan, Buguias, Kibungan, Atok, Bokod)
  • Ilocos Norte
  • Ilocos Sur
  • Polillo Islands

For the weather on Wednesday, PAGASA said the Southwest Monsoon is affecting Southern Luzon and the western sections of Visayas and Mindanao.

Due to the tropical depression, Cagayan Valley, Cordillera Administrative Region, Aurora, Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, and Polillo Islands will have rains with gusty winds.

Metro Manila, rest of Ilocos Region, rest of Central Luzon, and the rest of CALABARZON will experience cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms brought by the tropical depression.

Bicol Region, MIMAROPA, Western Visayas, Negros Island Region, Central Visayas, and Zamboanga Peninsula will have cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms due to the Southwest Monsoon.

The rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms as a result of localized thunderstorms.
