Maynilad: Water interruptions to push through until May 14

Select customers of Maynilad Water Services Inc. will continue to experience low pressure to no water supply daily, even as the company on Thursday reported an increase in the production of its water treatment facilities.

"(O)ur affected customers in portions of Parañaque, Las Piñas, Muntinlupa, and Cavite will continue to experience low pressure to no water supply daily, within the schedule provided previously, until May 14, 2019," the company said in an advisory.

Maynilad earlier announced possible water service interruptions in the said areas until May 14, due to the growth of algae in the Laguna Lake.

"We are intensifying our treatment interventions to address the issues brought about by the algal bloom and bring our production back to normal levels," it said.

In the same statement, Maynilad said it was able to increase the production of its Putatan water treatment facilities (PWTP 1 and 2) to 125 million liters per day (MLD) from a low of 80 MLD.

"While this is still below our normal production — as the facilities’ full combined capacity is at 250 MLD — it is an improvement that will help us to better stabilize supply in the network, and marginally increase the supply availability window for some of the affected areas," said Maynilad.

"Our technical teams are working double-time to bring our water production back to normal levels sooner rather than later. We apologize for the inconvenience," it added.

In the meantime, Maynilad said 40 mobile water tankers are currently doing the rounds in "severely affected" areas to provide potable water to customers.

Maynilad is the West Zone concessionaire of the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS), which includes certain portions of the cities of Caloocan, Las Piñas, Makati, Malabon, Manila, Muntinlupa, Navotas, Parañaque, Pasay, Quezon, Valenzuela, and areas in Cavite such as Bacoor, Imus, Kawit, Noveleta, and Rosario. — RSJ, GMA News
