Expect longer lines at MRT stations Wednesday to Saturday
Commuters of the Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3) should expect longer lines from Wednesday to Saturday as the rail system will undergo safety inspections for suspected damage, an official has said.
According to MRT-3 Director for Operations Deo Manalo, queues at MRT's stations are expected to take longer during peak hours as the number of trains running will be reduced.
"Babawasan ang train during peak hours, instead of 20 gagawing 15 to give way for the inspections so expected na humaba ang mga pila," Manalo told GMA News Online.
"This is for a maximum of four days lang naman pero baka matapos din naman agad," he added.
The MRT-3 official said an incident last night due to a "strange sound" heard in one of the trains, which prompted the railway line to impose a provisional service, compelled them to conduct safety inspections.
"This is to ensure the safety of our trains for our passengers," Manalo said.
Apart from reducing the number of operational trains during peak hours, Manalo said MRT-3 is also reducing the trains' speed from the usual 40-60 kilometer per hour to 20 kilometers per hour.
The MRT-3 runs through the Metro Manila's main thoroughfare EDSA from North Avenue in Quezon City to Taft Avenue in Pasay City. —NB, GMA News
