MMDA, QC bare alternate routes in light of Tandang Sora intersection closure

Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) and Quezon City Department of Public Order and Safety (QC-DPOS) officials announced the possible alternative routes in response to the scheduled Tandang Sora flyover and intersection closure.

The flyover and intersection will be closed at 11 p.m. on Saturday, March 2. It was previously set for February 23 but was postponed for a week.

According to Saleema Refran's report on 24 Oras on Friday, with the closure, over 3 lanes will be removed from the public's use.

The U-turn slot under the Luzon Avenue flyover is also scheduled to be moved before Monday to Congressional Avenue Extension.

In light of the closure, the MMDA and QC-DPOS advised the public to take any of these possible routes:

Going to Quezon Memorial Circle

  • Take a U-turn in front of Home Depot, turn right on Luzon Avenue and exit Congressional Extension;
  • Or turn right on Tandang Sora Avenue and U-turn on Congressional Extension;
  • For those coming from Fairview, turn right on Don Antonio, go through Mapayapa going to Luzon Avenue

Going to Katipunan

  • Turn right on Luzon Avenue, U-turn on Congressional Extension and go on the Luzon Flyover;
  • Make a U-turn near the Technohub and turn right on Tandang Sora going to Katipunan. Drivers can also go under the Luzon Flyover;
  • or U-turn on Commonwealth Avenue-Elliptical Road and turn right on University Avenue, then turn right again on C.P. Garcia exiting onto Katipunan.

"May mga gates kami ng subdivision na binuksan eh...Kung ease of traffic ang issue, puwede namin buksan 'yun," QC-DPOS Chief San Diego said.

Officials are also working double time to clear the alternative routes of illegally parked vehicles, and disobedient commuters and drivers not following the loading and unloading zones in preparation for the closure.

The closure of Tandang Sora flyover and intersection is part of the ongoing construction of the Metro Rail Transit System Line 7 (MRT-7) which is expected to be completed in two years. —Kaela Malig/NB/KG, GMA News
