AirAsia cancels select South Korea flights amid COVID-19 travel restrictions

Budget carrier AirAsia on Tuesday announced the cancellation of select flights to South Korea, following the spread of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in the country.

"In compliance with the Philippine government’s directive imposing travel restrictions due to the current public health situation, AirAsia is canceling some of its flights between the Philippines and South Korea until the government’s further notice," it said in an advisory.

The Philippines last month announced travel restrictions on parts of South Korea, effectively barring Filipino tourists from going to the country.

According to AirAsia, the following flights have been canceled:

  • Z238 Kalibo-Incheon from March 4 to 28 (Wednesdays, Thursdays, Sundays)
  • Z239 Incheon-Kalibo from March 4 to 28 (Wednesdays, Thursdays, Sundays)
  • Z258 Kalibo-Busan from March 7 to 28 (Saturdays)
  • Z259 Busan-Kalibo from March 7 to 28 (Saturdays)
  • Z27046 Cebu-Incheon from March 3 to 28 (Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays)
  • Z27047 Incheon-Cebu from March 3 to 28 (Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays)
  • Z2888 Manila-Incheon from March 4 to 28 (Daily)
  • Z2889 Incheon-Manila from March 4 to 28 (Daily)

Affected passengers may choose to either move their flight for free, retain the value of the fare in a credit account, or obtain a full refund.

"All affected guests will be promptly notified via email or SMS. AirAsia strongly encourages guests to update their contact details using the 'My Bookings' feature on airasia.com to ensure that they receive timely notifications," the carrier said. — MDM, GMA News
