MMDA suspends modified number coding scheme on June 8 until further notice

The implementation of a modified number coding scheme on vehicles in Metro Manila will be suspended on Monday, June 8, until further notice due to limited public transportation, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority announced Sunday.

MMDA spokesperson Celine Pialago said the scheme, which was supposed to take effect on Monday, will not be pursued on June 8 because the Department of Transportation and the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board are still identifying more bus routes.

Based on MMDA Regulation 2020-001 series of 2020, the following vehicles are to be exempted from the modified number coding scheme:

  • those driven by health workers; and/or
  • those with two or more passengers including the driver, provided that social distancing and wearing of face masks is observed.
