NAIA resumes flight operations after brief suspension due to inclement weather

The Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) resumed its normal flight operations after it was briefly suspended due to inclement weather on Monday afternoon.

The NAIA briefly suspended operations after the state weather bureau issued a red lighting alert at 1:33 p.m., according to the Department of Transportation (DOTr)’s Facebook post.

Meanwhile, the weather bureau lowered the red lighting alert to yellow as of 2:42 p.m., the DOTr said.

“Normal flight operations at NAIA have resumed,” it added.

PAGASA issues a red lightning alert when a thunderstorm accompanied by lightning is within nine kilometers of the airport.

Based on PAGASA’s Monday weather forecast, a low-pressure area (LPA) located east-northeast of Surigao City will bring cloudy conditions with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over Eastern and Central Visayas, Caraga, Bicol Region, and Negros Occidental. — DVM, GMA News
