Holy Week 2025 road closures, rerouting in Poblacion, Makati
Makati City’s Public Safety Department on Saturday announced a Holy Week traffic rerouting and road closure plan in Barangay Poblacion from April 13 to 20, 2025.
Motorists were advised to plan their routes accordingly as several streets would be inaccessible and delays could be expected in key areas of Makati.
Road Closures (April 15, 16, and 18, from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m.)
The following intersections along J.P. Rizal Avenue will be closed to traffic during peak activity hours:
- J.P. Rizal corner West Cloverleaf
- J.P. Rizal corner Estrella
- J.P. Rizal corner JD Villena
- J.P. Rizal corner Makati Avenue
The Public Safety Department noted that the April 18 road closure may be extended to accommodate a Good Friday procession.
To manage the flow of vehicles, J.P. Rizal Avenue (from Pasong Tirad to Makati Avenue) will be temporarily converted into two-way traffic from 6:00 a.m. on April 13 (Palm Sunday) until 12:01 a.m. on April 21 (Easter Monday).
Meanwhile, several streets within Barangay Poblacion will be closed to traffic for the construction of “kubols” (makeshift chapels) starting a week before Holy Week. These include portions of:
- Gen. Luna St.
- Enriquez St.
- San Marcos St.
- San Juan St.
- Don Pedro St.
- Guanzon St.
- San Mateo St.
- Agno St.
- Doña Efipania St.
- Ilaya St.
- Albert St.
- P. Gomez St. (northside and Hagdang Bato)
- San Agustin St.
- Quintos St.
- Molina St.
- Zenaida St.
- Bagong Diwa St.
- Ma. Aurora Ext. St.
- Osmeña St.
Rerouting Schemes
Westbound (From Guadalupe to Makati City Hall, Circuit Makati, Delpan):
- Light vehicles (cars, SUVs):
Via J.P. Rizal Ave. → LT Estrella St. → RT Rockwell Drive → RT Kalayaan Ave. → LT Makati Ave. → RT to either Jupiter St. or Sen. Gil J. Puyat Ave. → RT N. Garcia (Reposo) → LT back to J.P. Rizal.
- Heavy vehicles (PUJs, trucks, 6 wheels and up):
Via J.P. Rizal (Guadalupe Bridge) → LT West Cloverleaf → RT EDSA southbound → RT Sen. Gil J. Puyat → RT N. Garcia (Reposo) → LT J.P. Rizal.
Eastbound (From Delpan heading to Guadalupe, Pateros, EDSA):
- Option 1 (All vehicles):
Straight on J.P. Rizal → temporary two-way → RT N. Garcia → LT Sen. Gil J. Puyat → onward to EDSA or Buendia Flyover.
- Option 2:
RT Pasong Tirad → LT Kalayaan Ave. → RT N. Garcia → LT Sen. Gil J. Puyat → onward to destination.
From Makati CBD to Mandaluyong via Makati-Mandaluyong Bridge:
- Northbound flow on Makati Ave. remains open, but expect delays of 30 minutes to 2 hours during processions.
- Alternate route: Ayala Ave. → Ayala-EDSA flyover or Buendia flyover → EDSA.
From Mandaluyong to Makati CBD (Southbound via Makati-Mandaluyong Bridge):
- Southbound traffic on Makati Ave. will be open but with a stop-and-go flow.
- Alternate route: RT J.P. Rizal → LT Zapote → LT Kamagong → RT Ayala Ave. Ext. → Cross Ayala/Sen. Gil J. Puyat intersection → Makati CBD.
The Public Safety Department urged all motorists to follow traffic signs, be patient during delays, and prioritize pedestrian safety during religious events.
Holy Week remains one of the most significant observances in the Philippines, and these measures are aimed at ensuring safe and orderly commemorations in the city, the department added. — DVM, GMA Integrated News
