LRTA announces free LRT-2 rides on June 25 to 26, 2025 after trips affected by glitch
The Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA) announced on Wednesday morning that it will offer free rides to commuters on the Light Rail Transit Line 2 (LRT-2) on Wednesday, June 25, and Thursday, June 26, 2025.
This came after the LRT-2 operations were affected by a technical glitch early Wednesday, prompting the train trips to be limited to run only from Cubao to Recto and Recto to Cubao stations.
LRTA administrator Atty. Hernando Cabrera said Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon ordered that the free LRT-2 rides be offered on the two days, according to GMA Integrated News reporter James Agustin.
The free LRT-2 rides offer is already effective as of posting time.
Cabrera said there was a problem in the transformer no. 5 and no. 6 located in Santolan and Anonas areas.
Their team was already on site to do repairs early Wednesday.
The LRTA official said they are targeting to finish the repair work this morning and have normal operations thereafter.

Cabrera apologized to the public for the inconvenience the incident has caused.
Full line train operations resumed before noon on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) said it has ordered the LRT-2 operator to offer free bus rides from Antipolo to Cubao Station and vice versa, to help passengers stranded as a result of the degraded train operations.
The DOTr said this is in accordance with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.'s directive to ensure continuous service in public transportation.
