Palace suspends gov’t work, classes in public schools in 7 regions due to Ulysses

Malacañang on Wednesday suspended work in government offices and classes in public schools at all levels in seven regions in Luzon ahead of the expected onslaught of Typhoon Ulysses.

The suspension will take effect at 3 p.m. Wednesday and will last until Thursday, according to a circular issued by Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea.

Areas covered by the suspension are Regions 2 and 3, CALABARZON, MIMAROPA, Bicol, the Cordillera Administrative Region and National Capital Region.

However, agencies whose functions involve the delivery of basic and health services, disaster preparedness and response, and/or the performance of other vital services shall continue with their operations, the directive stated.

The Palace left the suspension of work for private companies, offices and schools to the discretion of their respective heads.

Sixteen areas in Luzon remained under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 3 as Typhoon Ulysses intensified further and continued to move closer towards the Quezon-Aurora area, state weather bureau PAGASA said Wednesday afternoon. --KBK, GMA News
