Patrick Garcia's tell-all: 9 revelations about his past with Jennylyn Mercado

Patrick Garcia shocked the public with a rare interview on Wednesday, where made some revelations about his past relationship with Jennylyn Mercado.

As his daughter makes a move into showbusiness, Patrick came forward to tell his side of the story in an effort to rid his family from the bashing they’ve been receiving.

In an interview on Ogie Diaz’s YouTube channel, the ‘90s heartthrob said he had a story he kept for 18 years concerning the actress and their son Alex Jazz.

Here are seven things he claimed in the interview.

1. They were together when they learned of the pregnancy.

Patrick and Jennylyn were together when they found out that she was pregnant. The actor said he was both nervous and scared.

“This is not planned, but ready to face it,” he said.

They shared the news with their families and managers, and then announced it to the public.

“After announcing, things got a bit messy. This is entering the second month of her pregnancy,” he said.

2. Things fell apart during Jennylyn's pregnancy.

Patrick acknowledged that there were lots of negative rumors at the time, including the baby not being his, that Jennylyn was spotted at another actor or politician’s condo, among others.

There were also rumors that his family did not like Jennylyn, which he debunked, as they had been supportive of her since the start.

The former couple had an argument due to an interview Patrick did, and when he visited Jennylyn, he was not allowed to enter. However, Patrick remained optimistic about their relationship.

And then, two weeks after their fight, Patrick found out that Jennylyn and Andrei Felix were in a relationship.

“I didn’t know what to feel or what to think,” he said.

The relationship was confirmed by Andrei in a past interview, where he said he and Jennylyn dated for two years.

It was at that time that Patrick knew that they wouldn’t be together again, but still wanted to talk to her.

3. Patrick saw Jennylyn's baby bump on her fourth month of pregnancy.

During that meet-up, Patrick requested that although Jennylyn doesn’t like him anymore, that he would still attend doctor’s appointments and check-ups, and receive updates about the baby.

“She said no,” Patrick recalled.

“So, I didn’t wanna argue anymore,” he added. “If you really don’t want me there, I’ll just respect it.”

In a 2010 interview with Pep, Jennylyn said that the breakup happened because she was not getting emotional and financial support from Patrick during her pregnancy.

“Since I got pregnant, he did not do any effort for me and his child,” the actress and singer said.

Jennylyn added she reached out many times but Patrick was avoiding her.

“Right when I needed him, he was gone. I don’t need financial support. I need love, care, and emotional support. He should approach me. I have approached many times,” she said.

4. Patrick was not in the Philippines when Jennylyn gave birth.

Patrick left for another country in June, and Jennylyn gave birth in August. He said he was either in New York or Canada when she gave birth.

He denied abandoning Jennylyn during her pregnancy.

“I was never there for Jen during her pregnancy not because I didn’t want to be there, because she didn’t want me to be there,” Patrick told Ogie.

He added that he did not try to reach out as he was abroad.

5. Patrick met Alex Jazz when he was almost two years old.

After his time abroad and taking a break for a year, he met Jazz at Kendra Kramer’s first birthday party.

“He was a really beautiful boy. I was incredibly happy when I saw him,” he said.

He was focused on seeing Jazz, and he and Jen did not talk for closure.

“I didn’t feel the need for us to talk. For what?”

Patrick was also able to spend time with Jazz for a few years.

“Actually, the first time I saw Jazz, you know there’s something different with him. It was noticeable, the first time I met him. And the more I wanted to love him because he was different, and the more I wanted to get to know him, the more I wanted to take care of him,” Patrick said.

“I was given a chance during that time to join his therapy sessions, speech therapy,” he added. “I was very involved but it stopped.”

Patrick said that during a certain period, all he could give Jazz was time, so this was another reason for arguments with Jennylyn.

He shared that he was not able to see Jazz from 2012 to 2013. They saw each other again in 2014 when he and now wife Nikka got engaged. In 2015, when Patrick was walking down the aisle at his wedding, Jazz was with him.

He also claimed that Alex Jazz’s name is from Andrei, whose full name is Alexander.

6. Patrick hasn’t seen Jazz since 2017.

Patrick told Ogie that it is challenging to see his son as they do not live in the same house.

However, he claimed that he has been making the effort to see Jazz.

His last financial contribution was also in 2017.

“I don’t see him, how will I give it?” Patrick said, and added that he has money saved for Jazz.

“I’ve been messaging since 2018 on Viber but I get no reply from the mother,” he added. “Seen. But the last two years, it wasn’t seen.”

According to Patrick, Jennylyn’s last contact to his family was in 2021 when she messaged his wife, Nikka, to say she wanted to call him.

“Our talk went okay,” he said.

But after that, when Nikka asked Jennylyn if they could visit Jazz, there was no reply.

7. Jennylyn reached out to say Dennis Trillo was adopting Jazz.

Patrick revealed that the reason why Jennylyn called was to let him know that Dennis Trillo was adopting Jazz, and giving him his last name. Patrick clarified that Jazz’s last name on his birth certificate is not Garcia.

“She was letting me know. She was not asking permission. She was letting me know, it’s like she was telling me something,” Patrick said.

Patrick said he didn’t have a say in the matter.

He asked again if he could see Jazz, to which Jennylyn said yes.

Patrick said he is happy to see Jennylyn and Dennis taking care of Jazz, and commends them.

“When I see many people love Jazz, it’s amazing,” he said.

Patrick said he had never talked to Dennis and never reached out. However, Patrick thanks him for loving Jazz like his own.

In a post following Patrick’s interview, Dennis said, "Hindi ako pabor sa bashing, pero salamat at naalala mo si Jazz dahil sa pag bash sa anak mo." He then told his followers to “spread love, not hate.”

8. Patrick is telling his story because of the bashing experienced by his family.

His 13-year-old daughter, Michelle, was the one who urged him to share his side.

Michelle has been the subject of bashing, especially after beginning idol training under SM Entertainment. According to Patrick, when she reads comments on stories about her, they are all about how her father is not a hands-on dad to Jazz.

She then told Patrick, “Daddy, why don’t you tell your story? What really happened between you and your past.”

Patrick told her that the bashing may not stop, but Michelle said, “It’s okay, as long as they know the truth.”

Meanwhile, Jennylyn’s agency, Aguila Entertainment, said the actress will not comment on the matter.

“Everyone is entitled to share their story on whatever platform they choose. In this case, Jennylyn would rather not share her side of the story out of respect for the privacy and peace of mind of both her family and Patrick’s,” the statement read.

Jennylyn’s manager, Becky Aguila, however, slammed Patrick following the interview, saying that there was a lot that was missing from his story.

"There are a lot of things you did to hurt her, and she never shared it with anyone as a sign of respect to you as the father of her child, and your family, who are not involved," Aguila said.

9. Patrick is still optimistic about his future with Jazz.

"It’s never over," he said.

He added that he will continue to try to see his son.
