Ate Gay suffers stroke, remains in critical condition

Ate Gay remains in critical condition after suffering a stroke.

In a statement posted on his Facebook on Friday, his family said Ate Gay was first rushed to the emergency room of Asian Hospital and Medical Center (AHMC) on October 17 due to difficulty breathing.

"According to his doctors, he suffered septic shock and acute respiratory failure secondary to pneumonia, or a severe infection that affected his breathing and blood circulation," the family said.

He was subsequently admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for intensive treatment and monitoring.

Based on the latest assessment of his attending physicians, Ate Gay has overcome the initial septic shock.

However, on October 29, Ate Gay suffered a stroke, which caused damage to the right side of his brain.

"At present, he still relies on life-support machines to support his body's vital functions. His condition remains critical but guarded," they added.

The family said they had considered transferring him to another hospital because of the mounting medical expenses. However, doctors advised against the transfer due to his delicate condition, so he remains in the ICU for continued monitoring and treatment.

They added that they are seeking medical and financial assistance from government agencies, private individuals, charitable institutions, and other organizations to help cover his medical expenses.

Meanwhile, the family expressed gratitude to everyone who has extended financial assistance, support, and prayers for the comedian amid his ongoing hospitalization.

"We understand that everyone has their own struggles and responsibilities. We do not take any of your assistance for granted, and we are deeply grateful for your kindness," they said.

"Despite everything, we continue to hope and place our trust in God's mercy and grace."

Earlier this month, the comedian known as Gil Morales in real life held a "living funeral" with his family and close friends.

Ate Gay was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer in 2025.

An anonymous donor helped him with his radiation therapy at the Asian Hospital, while a fan lent a condo unit nearby for the comedian's convenience.

In November, Ate Gay said he'd already "graduated" from radiation and chemotherapy.

Just last June, the comedian said he no longer has lumps on his neck and nose following his MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging).
