Boobsie Wonderland recalls how Ate Gay helped reunite her with her father
Comedian Boobsie Wonderland looked back on her friendship with the late Ate Gay, sharing how he played a significant role in her life, particularly in helping her reconnect with her father after 30 years.
On Tuesday’s episode of “Unang Hirit,” Boobsie spoke about Ate Gay’s passing and expressed gratitude for the additional time he was given to live.
“We are already thankful that his life was extended by 11 months,” she said in Filipino.
Beyond their friendship in the entertainment industry, Boobsie credited Ate Gay for helping her reconnect with her father, whom she had not seen for three decades.
“He was the reason I became who I am today,” she said. “I had not seen my father for 30 years, and through ‘Wish Ko Lang,’ he was the one tasked with finding my father in Cebu.”
She recalled how Ate Gay initially led her to believe that they were going to perform at a show, when he was actually carrying out a special mission to help her.
“He tricked me into thinking we had a show, but it turned out he had a mission for me,” she said.
Meanwhile, Boobsie said she was in Bulacan when she received the news of Ate Gay’s death from their manager.
She admitted that she was initially shocked by the news, although she had already been aware of Ate Gay’s critical condition.
Ate Gay passed away on November 1 after suffering a stroke. He was also diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer.
Ate Gay fought a hard battle against cancer. In 2025, an anonymous donor helped cover the cost of his radiation therapy at Asian Hospital, while a fan lent him a nearby condo unit for convenience.
In November 2025, Ate Gay said he'd already "graduated" from radiation and chemotherapy.
Earlier this month, he held a "living funeral" with his family and close friends. —Hermes Joy Tunac/JCB, GMA News
